Metro History
An interesting presentation was given by Dr Kath Smith on the 18th January 2023 entitled “Metro History".
Kath runs a project called “Remembering the Past” and this presentation was about the history of the building of the Tyne & Wear Metro system.
Her presentation started by showing us how the old system of above ground 3rd rail electric trains ran (North Tyneside only) and how the new overhead electric train system was planned and executed, this is an underground system in Newcastle and an overground system covering Tyne & Wear area.
Several video's were shown including one showing the train stalls (Sheds) from the old system and a walk through tour of the new stalls and workshops.
This was a very good morning for all our members who thoroughly enjoyed the presentation.
